Wash & Care instructions
How to Care for Your Silk Products
Silk is a luxurious and delicate fabric that requires special care to maintain its beauty, softness, and durability. By following these care instructions, you can ensure that your silk products remain in perfect condition for years to come.
Washing Silk
- Hand Wash Recommended: The best way to clean silk is by hand washing it in cold or lukewarm water (30°C / 86°F) using a gentle silk detergent.
- Use a Mild Detergent: Choose a detergent specifically designed for silk or delicate fabrics. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, and fabric softeners, as they can damage the fibers.
- Soak Briefly: Let your silk item soak for a few minutes, then gently swirl it around. Do not rub, wring, or twist the fabric to avoid damaging the delicate fibers.
- Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse the silk product with cold water until all soap is removed.
Machine Washing
- Use a Laundry Bag: If you choose to wash silk in a machine, place it in a mesh laundry bag to protect it.
- Gentle Cycle: Select the delicate or silk cycle on your washing machine and use cold water.
- Mild Detergent: Use a detergent suitable for silk fabrics.
- Avoid Spin Drying: Excessive spinning can damage silk fibers, so opt for a low spin speed or no spin at all.
Drying Silk
- Air Dry Only: Never tumble dry silk. Instead, lay it flat on a clean, dry towel and roll it gently to remove excess water. Then, reshape and lay it flat to dry away from direct sunlight.
- Avoid Hangers: Hanging silk while wet can cause stretching. Instead, let it dry naturally on a flat surface.
Ironing Silk
- Low Heat Setting: If needed, iron silk on the lowest heat setting while it is still slightly damp.
- Use a Cloth Barrier: Place a clean cotton cloth between the iron and the silk to prevent damage.
- Steam Instead: A steamer can be a great alternative to remove wrinkles without direct heat.
Storing Silk
- Keep Away from Sunlight: Store silk in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
- Use a Breathable Bag: Avoid plastic storage bags, as silk needs to breathe. Instead, use a fabric garment bag.
- Avoid Moth Damage: Store silk with natural repellents like lavender sachets to prevent moths from damaging the fabric.
Removing Stains from Silk
- Act Quickly: Blot (do not rub) stains gently with a clean, damp cloth.
- Use Mild Solutions: Mix lukewarm water with a gentle detergent and dab the stain lightly.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Never use bleach, ammonia, or strong stain removers, as they can weaken silk fibers.
